Hate brings great misfortune,
hate churns up and harms the mind;
this fearful danger deep within
most people do not understand.

Congratulations, you are now past the half-way mark in my serie of posts about my trip to Hawaii.

This 4th one is from the escapade we did to the last active volcano on Big Island, named K?lauea (means “spewing” or “much spreading”).

What is surprising is that the site is really vast.  I mean way bigger than I anticipated.  Also, the “active” part is quite small.

You will see that the first part of the set is from the “old section” where the initials eruptions happened and then it moves on to the active part.  That last section will give you the chance to do a nice trek, though quite long.  If I can give advices in regards to that activity is to arrive before the sun sets, with frontal lights (or flash lights) and plenty of drinking water.  Also, since you’ll be mostly jumping from one lava formation to another – which have quite hard and not that slippery surface – you can come with regular sports shoes, no need for hard soles hiking shoes.

Having known that when we were there, we would have been able to get to the other end of the trek and see the active lava flow.  Better luck next time I guess ;)

This 3rd set includes the escapade we made to the Waipio Valley, on the northern end of the island.

Some of the pictures before are from the way up to the valley.  This is a place I would recommend to anyone going on vacation to Hawaii and is one of main reason why you NEED to rent a Jeep when you get there for vacation.

This set contains couple of different locations all around the island.

The first two are from Akaka Falls (more info here), on the Hilo side.  Then there are a couple of Saddle road, the “outback” road that cuts right through the Island, making it a bit easier to reach Kona.

The remaining photos are all from the coast of Kona, ranging from wildlife filled beaches to amazing sunsets.
